2 construction workers and driver injured in crash on I-95 in the Tacony section of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Two construction workers and a driver were injured in a crash along Interstate 95 in Philadelphia's Tacony neighborhood on Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 10:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes near the Cottman Avenue exit.

Video from Chopper 6 showed a white SUV with significant front-end damage. A construction vehicle and an arrow board sign were also damaged.

Authorities said the workers were performing roadwork on an off-ramp when they were struck by flying debris after the SUV crashed into the arrow board.

Video from the scene showed one worker lying on the shoulder of the highway before being loaded into an ambulance.

Police said all three people suffered minor injuries.

PennDOT is using the incident as a reminder for motorists to use caution when traveling through active work zones.

"It's a very dangerous environment," said Brad Rudolph, PennDOT's deputy communications director. "A lot of times these lanes are narrowed. They're less comfortable for drivers. In addition, you have workers out there who are in very vulnerable positions."

Per state law, you could temporarily lose your license for speeding in a work zone, and fines are doubled for violations in active work zones.

Authorities have not said whether the driver will face any charges.

The crash remains under investigation.
